Temporary Shelter in Charlotte for Gustav Evacuees

Sep 2, 2008

About eight evacuees from the Gulf Coast registered this afternoon at the Victory Christian Center. Local Red Cross Spokeswoman Kate Meier says the agency has been taking calls from people asking for directions to the temporary shelter. "As far as how many we can expect we really don't know. You never know in a situation like this. We're just kind of prepared to hold as many people as need to come," she says. Meier says the local Red Cross is also making preparations for Hurricane Hanna. She says the agency is coordinating volunteer and shelter efforts with the Red Cross state office in anticipation of Hanna. That storm is forecast to touch both Carolina coasts later this week.
