Southern Conference, ACC Hint At Moving Events Because Of HB2

Southern Conference commissioner John Iamarino is hinting that the men's and women's basketball tournaments in the collegiate sports league could be moved from Asheville over concerns with North Carolina’s House Bill 2. Iamarino made his comments to the Asheville Citizen-Times yesterday, less than 24 hours after the NCAA pulled seven championship events out of North Carolina citing House Bill 2.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of the ACC, John Swofford, has issued a statement expressing disapproval with the law. He said he expects the conference’s presidents and chancellors to consider relocating the ACC championship football game from Charlotte, scheduled for Dec. 3. North Carolina’s HB2 law requires transgender people to use bathrooms matching the sex on their birth certificate.

School Bus Shot With BBs

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say a person fired a BB gun at a school bus full of children this morning. Officers were called to the scene in southeast Charlotte just off the Andrew Jackson Highway around 9 a.m. According to a release from CMPD, the bus was carrying 47 children on their way to Idlewild Road Elementary School. A bus window was shattered. No injuries were reported.

Officers were able to locate a 17-year-old suspect in a nearby house and transported him to the Independence Division team office where he's being questioned. Officers also found the BB gun used in the shooting. No charges have been filed.

Donald Trump Campaign Opening First NC Campaign Offices

The Donald Trump campaign is unveiling its first offices in North Carolina throughout the day Wednesday. The presidential candidate’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, will be officiating the opening ceremonies in Charlotte, Indian Trail, and Huntersville.

Trump’s campaign operations in North Carolina are far behind those of his rival Hillary Clinton. The Clinton campaign has already set up more than 30 offices statewide, many of which have been in place for months, along with extensive operations.

But Trump’s North Carolina director, Jason Simmons, says levels of support shouldn’t be based on the number of offices but upon grass-roots support. The Republican National Committee also is bringing in more paid staff to North Carolina above the 50 workers the RNC recently reported. Lara Trump will be at the Trump campaign office openings. She's married to Trump's son, Eric.
