Twenty-six states have banned smoking in restaurants, but North Carolina is not one of them. Local health officials hope to change that by training citizens to push for smoke-free dining at their favorite restaurants. Gaston County health education coordinator La Verne Partlow will hold the county's first smoke-free training for citizens tonight. She spoke with WFAE's Julie Rose. The smoke-free volunteer training is April 21, at 7:00p.m. in the Dogwood Room at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Mecklenburg County also offers citizen resources at www.smokefreemecklenburg.org.
