Billy Maddalon, owner of The Morehead Inn in Dilworth,  has been chosen to fill the city council seat vacated by Patsy Kinsey who is temporarily serving as Charlotte Mayor.  Maddalon is a native of Charlotte and a self-described "centrist Democrat."

"You know the shop's on fire," says Maddalon.  "There's just so many really important issues in front of our community and my goal would be to get up to speed as quickly as possible and become a contributor on city council in the four very short months I'll have to do that."

Maddalon has served on the board of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority and is currently a co-chair of a coalition working to revitalize the city's eastside.

He will be sworn in as the city council's District 1 representative this morning and does not intend to challenge Kinsey for the seat in November.  She hopes to be re-elected to that post after her stint as interim-mayor.
