Search Continues For Missing Hickory Girl

Police are still searching for a missing 10-year-old girl in Hickory. The disappearance of Zahra Baker is gaining national attention. Zahra's father, Adam Baker, appeared on Good Morning America today and said his wife could be involved. "I wouldn't like to think so, but God, from what I've heard so far it could be possible." Elisa Baker, who is Zahra's stepmother, was arrested Sunday on several unrelated charges. They include writing bad checks and stealing from an employer. Meanwhile, Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said in a press conference today that officers are trying to learn as much as they can about the family by interviewing neighbors past and present. "This family had moved around different places throughout their time here in this community, so we're going back and trying to interview those neighbors and try to gather any information that we think will help us in this investigation." Adam Baker says he hasn't seen Zahra since Thursday night because of work. He says his wife told him that she last saw Zahra sleeping in her bed about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. A fire was reported in the Bakers' backyard at about 5 a.m. Zahra was reported missing Saturday afternoon.
