Reporter Who Covered McCrory Is His New Communications Director
A political reporter for a Raleigh television station is Governor Pat McCory’s new communications director.
Kim Genardo begins her new job Wednesday. She replaces Chris Walker.
As a reporter for WNCN-TV, Genardo covered both of McCrory’s gubernatorial campaigns and his administration. She had a one-on-one interview with him that aired Feb. 12th, and her Twitter feed shows she covered Monday’s State-of-the-State address.
But Genardo says she has integrity and “never spoke to the governor or asked about employment.”
She says Walker recommended her for the job and she seized the opportunity. Her salary will be $120, 000.
Here is the full text of her email to WFAE:
I covered both of Gov McCrory's campaigns and NEVER spoke to him or asked about employment. I have integrity.
The outgoing comm director recommended me for the job and I seized the opportunity.
I look forward to answering questions from you and your staff about issues concerning NC.
Call press office with further questions.
WFAE's Greg Collard followed up by asking Genardo if she knew she was under consideration for the job on Monday when she Tweeted this photo of McCrory at a cafe, and when she covered his State of the State address. She has not responded.
