At first, antibiotics were viewed as life-saving miracle drugs that also eliminated or shortened suffering from lots of different infections. But overuse now threatens their efficacy. We face a world of dangerous superbugs that will not be stopped by antibiotics so area hospitals have started a stewardship program to make sure doctors don’t overprescribe them.
