WFAE spoke to a former United Airlines pilot who once landed a plane at Washingtion Dulles after an engine ingested three seagulls. It was the same type of plane as Flight 1549. The pilot, Ramin Pourteymour, runs an aviation consulting business in California. Greg Collard asked him what a pilot must contend with in the event of a birdstrike.
