Parent University Unveiled in Charlotte

http://66.225.205.104/SO20080903.mp3

Sue Gorman, the wife of Superintendent Peter Gorman, is heading up the effort. It's called Parent University. "And as I've been around CMS schools, as the superintendent's wife, families always ask me what would you do if this happened, or how would you have handled this? Or what do you think about something. And I thought, I'm probably not the best trained professional but surely there's got to be a way," she says Parent University offers a series of courses that include helping with homework and keeping tabs on health and nutrition. Parents will be able to sign up for free classes that start on September 16th. Sue Gorman says the program is also open to private schools in Mecklenburg County. She says the 500-thousand dollar program is being funded by corporations. And non-profits will host the classes.
