Parent - Teacher Relationships

http://66.225.205.104/CT20110817.mp3

Is the Parent/Teacher conference the only time you interact with your child's teacher? Parent / Teacher Relationships As students head back to school this month, parents and teachers alike have high hopes for students' success. But sometimes this goal is harder to reach when teachers and parents don't communicate properly or have difficulty finding common ground regarding a student's experience at school. We'll talk with a panel including a parent and educators to talk about the pitfalls of parent/ teacher communication, and discuss the best ways for teachers and parents to interact and collaborate to ensure the success for students throughout the school year. Guests Dr. Mary Beth Gaertner - Author of Way to Go: A Research-based Strategy for Establishing A Positive Relationship Between Parents and Teachers. She's been an educator/ administrator for 30 years and lives in Houston, Texas. Avery Mitchell - Principal at Albemarle Road Middle School (a high-needs school). Her placement there was part of CMS' Strategic Staffing Initiative, which places high-performing administrators into high-needs schools. She works with teachers to encourage collaboration with parents. Veronie Gamble - Parent of a CMS high school student and former PTA President at Waddell High School, which closed last year.
