It’s now been two years since an environmental disaster unfolded on North Carolina’s Dan River. Now, the job of hauling away Duke Energy coal ash is picking up momentum. Similar work has already begun at other coal ash facilities, including one just outside of Charlotte. But communities on the receiving end of these coal ash deliveries aren’t happy. Elsewhere, regulators have drawn up timetables for removing coal ash, and the courts have weighed in on oversight of that clean-up.
