Observer Reporter Discusses Guantanamo Visit

http://66.225.205.104/CF20060626.mp3

Reporter Michael Gordon of the Charlotte Observer was recently ordered to leave Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was there doing a profile of Colonel Mike Bumgarner, the camp's commander, and a native of King's Mountain. As Gordon was arriving, news of three suicides at the camp was spreading. Gordon was able to chronicle the immediate aftermath of the controversial moment at the already controversial detention facility. Those stories that ran in the Observer caused a stir, and all reporters were ordered out of the base. Col. Bumgarner also faced discipline for allowing the type of access he did. WFAE's Craig Fahle spoke with Mr. Gordon. He asked him whether he was aware at the time of how much information he was privy to.
