Recent deaths due to carbon monoxide poisoning in a Boone Hotel have turned the spotlight onto possible failures at the state Medical Examiners office but the department has been under scrutiny for over a decade. The Charlotte Observer followed a 2001 legislative study of the Medical Examiners Officer and whether there was adequate training.
