Now that House Bill 2 is no longer on the books, NCAA and ACC leaders are assessing whether the law that replaces it is enough of a change to bring championship games back to North Carolina. NCAA President Mark Emmert said Thursday night the NCAA should know for sure by early next week.
"There were four distinct problems that the board had with that bill. They've removed some of them now, but not all of them and the question the board will be debating is if you remove two or three of them, will that be enough?" said Emmert.
He said the NCAA delayed its site selection process for events schedule through 2022 to allow North Carolina lawmakers as much time as possible to address HB2.
ACC Commissioner John Swofford said the repeal "allows the opportunity to re-open the discussion" over locating championship games in North Carolina once again.
