NC Voters Excited, Relieved

There's a mix of excitement and relief among voters in North Carolina. They say they're weary of the long, rancorous campaign season and ready for attack ads to leave the airwaves. At the same time, many say they have been eager to vote because this is an historic election. "Because it can be either a woman in office, or either an African American," says Terrence Jackson. "I voted for Obama. I'm making history." Jackson waited in line at his Charlotte polling place for about 30 minutes to vote. James Freiberg waited in the same line, but made a different choice, largely because he's a small business owner. "Republicans seem to treat us a lot better than the Democrats," says Freiberg, who runs a bar in Uptown Charlotte. "I like McCain, I think he's a good guy. I think he should have run last time too, but we got Bush in there." Analysts say President Bush's very low popularity in the U.S. is another reason why voters are turning out in record numbers this election.
