Mitchell, Winston, Eiselt and Ajmera Lead Council At-Large Race

With most of the vote counted, two incumbents and two newcomers were leading Tuesday's Democratic primary for Charlotte City Council at-large seats. 

Incumbent James Mitchell (19.4 percent) was leading the race for four slots. Activist and political newcomer Braxton Winston and incumbent Julie Eiselt both had about 17 percent, and current 5th District council member Dimple Ajmera was leading in the race for the fourth slot, with 13.3 percent. Ryan McGill (12.1 percent) and incumbent Claire Fallon (11.2 percent) followed. 

The four nominees will face three Republicans in November.

Ninety minutes after the polls closed, two incumbents were leading a field of fellow Democrats competing for four nominations for City Council at-large seats Tuesday.

Incumbents James Mitchell (19.5 percent) and Julie Eiselt (17.6 percent) were ahead of six other candidates with 62 of 168 precincts reporting. That total included early and absentee votes.Political newcomer Braxton Winston (17 percent) and current District 5 council member Dimple Ajmera (13.7) were running third and fourth.

Ryan McGill was fifth with 12 percent, ahead of incumbent Claire Green Fallon (11.3 percent), Roderick Davis (4.9 percent), and Jesse Boyd (4 percent)

The top four vote-getters will face three Republicans and one Libertarian in a race for the four at-large seats in the general election Nov. 7.  

In the council district races as of  9 p.m., Larken Eggleston was giving incumbent Patsy Kinsey a battle in District 1, leading her 46.4 to 46.1 percent.

In District 2, the seat formerly held by Al Austin who stepped down, Justin Harlow (45.2 percent) was leading J'Tanya Adams (41.5 percent).

Gregg Phipps held about a 17 point lead in the District 3 Democratic primary, with about 45 percent of the vote.

The Democratic race in District 5 was a close race between Matt Newton (35.4 percent) and Darrell Bonapart (32.1 percent).

And in District 6, Tariq Bokhari led Eric Laster 56 to 44 percent,
