Melanie Bloom's husband, NBC's David Bloom, died of a pulmonary embolism in Iraq while covering the war in 2003. David's embolism was caused by DVT, or deep vein thrombosis, a little-known, but relatively common condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in the lower limbs. Since 2005, Melanie Bloom has been working to educate the public about this condition and to help people recognize the warning signs to try and help save lives. We'll talk to Melanie Bloom in advance of her appearance in Charlotte with the Mecklenburg Medical Alliance and Endowment tomorrow.
