Charlotte council member Lawana Mayfield is hostinga forum on police relationships in communities of color Friday night. It’s called "Racial Reconciliation through Truth and Healing."

"We know there are generational impacts of policing based on race in our communities and we need to talk about the realities of what is occurring," said Mayfield announcing the meeting.

The forum is expected to include former CMPD Police Chief Rodney Monroe.

Mayfield drew complaints from several police officers over a tweet in March in which she equated officers with "homegrown terrorists." It was posted after the police shooting of Stephon Clark, an unarmed African American man who was mistakenly identified by police in Sacramento as a suspect accused of breaking windows.

The forum is at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church and begins at 6 o’clock.
