Man In Hospital After Being Tased by Police During Traffic Stop

Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office

A man remains in the hospital after being tased four days ago by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police during a traffic stop. According to a CMPD statement, police used the taser on Timothy Andrew Quintyne, 35, after he refused to exit the vehicle and began reaching for a machete and yelling at officers to shoot him.

CMPD said officers stopped a white minivan at 8 p.m. on April 13 on McAlway Road near the Cotswold area. According to police, the officers smelled marijuana when they approached the vehicle and saw a machete inside. They ordered the three occupants to get out of the minivan. The driver, Marlon Keitrail Lomax, 23, complied. Police caught the other passenger, Zsa’quan Deshawn Maurice Burris, 20, after a brief foot chase.

Police said they found two stolen handguns, marijuana and alcohol in the car.

Both Lomax and Burris face weapons and drug charges. Police said Quintyne will be served warrants following his release.

Quintyne was also arrested on April 11 on breaking and entering charges, police said. He was also shot in the leg on April 12. CMPD is investigating the shooting and no arrests have been made.
