Man Charged In Officer-Involved Shooting In Southeast Charlotte

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said an officer fired his gun while attempting to take a suicidal man into custody early Tuesday morning. No one was injured in the incident.

Police said they were called to a home in southeast Charlotte around 3:45 a.m. by the man's wife, who told officers he was barricaded in a bedroom with several firearms. When officers arrived, they said the man came out of the bedroom with a long gun, prompting CMPD Officer Anderson Brown to fire. The man was not hit. Later, he left the house unarmed and was taken into custody.

The man has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer, CMPD said.

According to CMPD, Brown and a second officer who was on the scene have been placed on administrative leave, per standard department protocol. Brown joined CMPD in 2014.

The Internal Affairs Bureau will also conduct a separate investigation of the incident.
