Kissell supporters board bus for DC swearing-in

When they get to D-C, the local Democrats will stop at the National Mall to see preparations for the big inaugural event. Then it's on to the Capitol to see their new 8th District Congressman Larry Kissell sworn in. Monroe Democrat Nancy Rorie organized the bus trip. They're a diverse group, including her 8-year old granddaughter and the Mayor of Wilkesboro. "Most of these people, we've known each other for a long time," says Rorie. "Some of 'em will be knew, so we'll have a chance to get to know them. We're gonna have a good time on the way up there. When we get there, we're gonna have a good time. And on the way back we're gonna have a good time." But not too good a time: "Not gonna have any ice coolers hidden away any where!" laughs Rorie. As far as the offices of Kissell and Senator-Elect Kay Hagan are aware, Rorie's group is the only organized busload of supporters from North Carolina bound for the Congressional swearing-in, which will be at noon tomorrow. A spokeswoman for Hagan says many of her supporters can only afford one trip to D.C. right now, so they're holding out for the Obama inauguration on January 20th.
