A Charlotte software company that automates bill payments for corporations is being offered nearly $9 million if it adds 600 jobs. A state committee approved the deal today for AvidXchange Inc., which plans an expansion from its current 300 employees and will build a new headquarters at the NC Music Factory.
The state incentive fund would pay AvidXchange up to $7.5 million if it meets job targets. Local governments would pay another $1.1 million. The new jobs are expected to pay an average salary of more than $61,000.
CMUD Still Looking For Leak
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities crews are still trying to find the cause of low water pressure affecting some 50,000 homes and businesses in south Charlotte. The utility expects a water main break or valve malfunction is the cause of the problem and that between 10 to 20 million gallons of water are effectively unaccounted for in the system.
The utilities department says the problems started yesterday afternoon, and inspectors searched for the problem throughout the night with no success. They continue to search for the source of the problem.
Duke Energy Invests In Solar
Duke Energy announced today they will spend $500 million on large solar projects. After a six-month bidding process Duke will add 278 megawatts of solar energy to the grid. That's about one-third the amount of electricity generated by Duke Energy's coal-burning Cliffside Steam Station in Cleveland County.
Duke will buy three facilities outright, including a 65 megawatt plant it says will be the largest east of the Missisissippi. The rest Duke will purchase through 15-year contracts from private developers.
