Gov. McCrory To Meet With Donald Trump, Chuck Stuber Requests Recount, Minor Earthquake In Lenoir

McClatchy newspapers reports North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory will meet with President-Elect Donald Trump at Trump Tower Wednesday. Sean Spicer, a spokesman for the Trump transition team told reporters about the planned meeting Tuesday morning. No other details were given. Neither McCrory's office nor his campaign confirmed the meeting.

The news comes just a day after McCrory conceded the race for North Carolina governor to his Democratic opponent, Roy Cooper. Unofficial vote tallies show McCrory trailing Cooper by 10,293 votes, or roughly .22 percent, as of Tuesday afternoon.

Republicans Request Recount In NC State Auditor Race

Republican Chuck Stuber has formally requested a recount in the race for North Carolina state auditor. Unofficial results show Stuber trailing Democratic opponent Beth Wood by 5,993 votes, well within the 10,000 vote margin needed to trigger a recount.

In a news release, the state GOP announced it would hand deliver a letter to the State Board of Elections in Raleigh at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday formally requesting the recount.

"I am doing this to honor all the citizens of North Carolina who voted in this race, and those who supported and encouraged me throughout my campaign" Stuber said, "As someone who is running for state auditor, I believe it is imperative to ensure absolute accuracy."

Minor Earthquake Reported in Lenoir

The U.S. Geological Survey says an earthquake hit Lenoir, NC, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. The earthquake hit at a depth of 4.8 km and rated a 2.1 magnitude on the Richter Scale, which rates earthquakes on a magnitude from 1 to 10. It struck around 2:46 a.m.
