As children, older adults remember leaving the house in the morning and not returning until dinner time. Their parents didn’t know exactly where they were and the kids didn’t have to check in. Today, that trend has reversed with helicopter parents hovering over their child's every move. Lenore Skenazy made headlines when she allowed her son to ride the New York City subway alone at age 9.
