State Republican leaders are trying to limit the power of Governor-elect Roy Cooper during their surprise special session. One of the justifications from Senate Leader Phil Berger is that Democrats did the same thing when they were in power.
So we spoke to former two-term Republican Governor Jim Martin of Charlotte. He served in the 1980s and early 1990s when Democrats controlled the General Assembly. Martin says he has mixed feelings about what state lawmakers from his own party are trying to push through.
