Flight 1549 passenger describes plane's evacuation

Some of the passengers who were on U.S. Airways Flight 1549 that went down in the Hudson River yesterday returned to Charlotte overnight. Most of the 115 passengers on the plane were from the Charlotte area. One who isn't is Carl Bazarian. This morning, he was in Charlotte waiting to fly home to Jacksonville, Florida. Bazarian said he was thankful to be alive. "From a totally, potentially tragic situation there's a lot of elation. It's amazing. It's just how you look at it. And all of my compatriots, we all feel very, very positive...very, very buoyant." Bazarian said the evacuation of the plane went surprisingly smoothly, with little anxiety among the passengers. "There was a little bit of screaming, but that subsided right away and then it was kind of orderly. The only yelling was when people tried to take purses are attache cases, and we we're all screaming at them. I just left everything." A team of 20 National Transportation Safety Board investigators is on the scene in New York looking into what caused the plane to go down. A flock of birds was initially blamed for disabling both the plane's engines, forcing it to ditch in the water. Bazarian said through the experience, he and about 8 other passengers bonded with one another. "We'll be close forever. It's unbelievable. Keeping each other warm, assisting each other. Great, great people. I mean really bonding. It's incredible."
