Fines Begin For License Plate Frames That Obscure

North Carolina state lawmakers have decided to cut down to size all those license plate frames that advertise anything from colleges to car dealerships. Last year the General Assembly outlawed any frames that cover up the plate number, registration renewal sticker or state name. Beginning today drivers with these over-sized frames can be fined $100. David McKinney is with Young Ford, one of the many dealerships which had to downsize their frames to comply with the law. He says the change wasn't much of a hassle. "As long as there's something around the tag highlighting, dressing up the tag a little bit and showing where the car comes from, the customer seems to be okay with that," says McKinney. Lawmakers say getting rid of the oversized frames will help law enforcement more easily identify cars. Many other states have enacted similar laws cracking down on license plate frames.
