Final Tallies Confirm Town Board Elections In Cornelius, Davidson

The Mecklenburg Board of Elections on Friday certified results of the November 7 local elections across the county. A final  check of absentee and provisional ballots didn't change the outcomes of two close town commissioner races in Cornelius and Davidson.

In Cornelius, unofficial results on election night showed incumbent commissioners Thurman Ross and Jim Duke just six votes apart, for the fifth and final seat on the board.  Duke, who had finished sixth, requested a recount last week.  It didn't change the vote totals. Ross held onto his seat by six votes, and Duke lost his. See the results on the state Board of Elections site.

In Davidson, the unofficial vote for the last seat on the five-member town board had David Sitton leading Shana Erber by just eight votes.  The final tally was unchanged, giving the seat to Sitton.  See the final tallies on the state Board of Elections website.

Erber technically has until Tuesday to request a recount. She had not done so as of Monday afternoon. Both Sitton and Erber were backed by the local activist group Save Davidson.
