Fans Gather To Celebrate Charlotte's Wrestling History

WFAE

Stars of Charlotte’s wrestling past are back in town this weekend.  They have names like Tully Blanchard, Magnam TA, The Russian Bear Ivan Koloff. And then there’s Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, better known as The Rock N Roll Express, and their arch rival, Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express.  They're here as well.

From late 50s through the 80s, Charlotte was huge in the world of professional wrestling when the sport was dominated by Charlotte’s Jim Crockett Promotions. That era will be celebrated at the Mid-Atlantic Legends Fanfest at the University Hilton.  You may remember Jim Cornette as the loud-mouthed, tennis racket-toting manager of the Midnight Express. He joined us to talk about wrestling in Charlotte.

Marshall came to WFAE after graduating from Appalachian State University, where he worked at the campus radio station and earned a degree in communication. Outside of radio, he loves listening to music and going to see bands - preferably in small, dingy clubs.
