Economy sets up intriguing NASCAR season

This weekend in Daytona, the 2009 NASCAR season starts after its most turbulent off-season in years. The poor economy has led to team mergers and hundreds of layoffs. To understand the impact and to get a feel for what kind of shape the Charlotte-based sport is in, WFAE's Scott Graf called Nate Ryan, a NASCAR beat writer for USA Today. He says 2009 will be a critical year for stock car racing's top series.
