In the 1970s, the Southeast became a hotspot for nuclear power plants, thanks to a growing population and the widespread adoption of air-conditioning. Today, this region remains a top-producer of nuclear power, with several new plants in the planning stages. And yet, the nation continues to wrestle with how to handle the toxic waste these plants create. For now, the solution involves routinely shipping waste across the country. WFAE's Julie Rose reports.
