CMS Bus Drivers Get Dress Code

Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools' bus drivers are getting back in the routine today. They've started practicing their new routes. But routes aren't the only change they'll be dealing with. This year they have a dress code. Gone are the days when CMS bus drivers can just roll out of bed and show up for their early morning runs in pajamas or whatever is easiest to slip on. New CMS rules say bus drivers can only wear black or khaki pants, skirts or culottes that hit below the knee. For the top, shirts have to have a collar. T-shirts, tank tops, or halter tops are expressly forbidden. So are sandals. The dress code goes beyond clothing. The rules state employees must use good judgment regarding length and design of fingernails. Proper hygiene is also required. The dress code states attire should reflect drivers' sense of responsibility and professionalism. If bus drivers get caught breaking the dress code, they'll be taken off their route for that day and not paid. The fifth violation will be grounds for firing. No one at CMS was available to talk about the new rules.
