The CMS board expects to appoint a new board member this week to fill the vacant district six seat for southern Mecklenburg County. Twelve people have applied for the position. The candidates include a few people familiar with the campaign trail. Larry Bumgarner and Scott Babbidge ran for an at-large position last year. Babbidge ended up withdrawing from the race. And former county commissioner and school board member Wilhelmenia Rembert is trying to get back on the board. Other candidates include a retired CMS teacher, the owner of an accounting firm, and an IT manager. It's up to the board to appoint a new district six representative, since Tim Morgan, who held that seat, was elected to an at-large position in November. Board members will interview candidates Tuesday afternoon. They expect to appoint someone by Thursday. That person will fill the remaining two years of the term.
