CMPD Cell Phone Surveillance

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department has been using secret cell phone tracking devices to follow suspected criminals but, in the process, they pick up a lot of data from private citizens who aren't doing anything illegal. This technology has been used by local, state and federal law enforcement across the country to fight terrorism and can be effective in fighting crime but it does raise privacy concerns. We discuss the balance between privacy and protecting public safety.
