Chinese IT Firm Calls Charlotte Home, Adds 200 Jobs

One of China's largest IT consulting firms, Pactera, announced Monday it's adding 200 jobs in Charlotte over the next few years and making the city its U.S. headquarters.

The announcement didn't start off like your typical economic development press conference.

"Today we're about to hear of what will be one of the largest economic development announcements regarding a company from Asia in  a long, long, time in Charlotte's history," Charlotte Chamber president Bob Morgan said before introducing Eileen Cai, vice president of the Chamber's Asian sector.

Eileen Cai is the Charlotte Chamber's vice president for economic development for the Asia sector. Pactera, an IT consulting firm based in Beijing announced today that it will add 200 jobs and make Charlotte its U.S. headquarters.

Cai welcomed the company to Charlotte in Mandarin. Pactera is an IT firm based in Beijing that's now going to make south Charlotte its U.S. headquarters. The company currently has 60 employees in Charlotte and they expect to add 200 more jobs over the next three years. Employees are expected to make at least $100,000 a year.

Company executives say it was an easy decision to choose Charlotte as its U.S. headquarters, in part because it's the nation's second-largest banking center. Meredith Boll is with Pactera's communications team.

"You know all we hear about all the time is unemployment, it's tough to find jobs," Boll says. "Because technology is such a huge industry, we're competing with other companies trying to get these other IT workers because they're in such high demand. So it's great for Charlotte because we're bringing in high-quality, value-add jobs."

Pactera was formed last November as a result of a merger between two Chinese IT services firms. The company will not be receiving any economic incentives for the expansion.
