Chimney Rock State Park in Rutherford County is closed because of a collapsed retaining wall, according to the park website.
Park officials discovered the collapsed wall Sunday morning and said it was caused by heavy rains in the area.
Pictures on the park website show damage to significant portions of the wall and concrete barriers separating the road and the cliff side. According to the website, the collapse happened in the upper parking lot and debris fell to the road below.
The park will remain closed while officials assess the damage and clear debris. There is no word at this time when Chimney Rock State Park will reopen.
