Charlotte Talks: John Grisham Discusses Justice, The South And Latest Novel

Tom Bullock / WFAE

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

One of the biggest names in legal thrillers, John Grisham, ditches the courtroom for a beach read for his latest novel. He joins guest host Erik Spanberg.

The courtroom is where you expect to find characters in John Grisham’s novels. He’s built a career on legal thrillers like The Firm, A Time To Kill, and The Pelican Brief that have become blockbuster films. But for his 30th novel, he tries something new. As The New York Times put it, "Mr. Courtroom has written a beach book."

Camino Island was released last summer and instantly became a bestseller. Instead of a lawyer, the main character is a book dealer. It's now out in paperback.

Grisham was in Charlotte last year and sat down with guest host Erik Spanberg. We revisit their conversation about his latest work, the justice system and the South.

This conversation originally aired June 15, 2017.
