Charlotte Talks: Grocers Fight For Ground In Charlotte's Store Wars

 Monday, May 28, 2018

What’s happening in the battle among grocers for your food dollar? Mike Collins and industry experts check in on the Store Wars. This show originally aired February 7, 2018.

The Great Grocery Store Wars rage on in Charlotte, and casualties are becoming apparent.  Hometown titan Harris Teeter has closed a Ballantyne location, and Charlotte-based Healthy Home Market waved the white flag and closed its doors.

Low-cost German grocer Lidl, which planted a flag in North Carolina last year as part of a U.S. expansion, has now pulled back. Construction has been halted on stores in South End and Mooresville.

Despite the setback, Lidl and fellow German discount chain Aldi are leading the charge in a price war that is putting pressure on other grocery companies.

What’s the state of play in the fight over your grocery dollar?
