The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art has a new exhibit, Wrestling the Angel. The exhibit takes critical look at the role that religion plays in art, and how it has impacted us both in society and socially.
This comes at a time when less and less people are identifying with traditional religious thought, and secularism is on the rise. Strangely enough this trend is not shown in art. Over the last two centuries numerous artists have embraced religious themes and the impact it has on their work, incorporating this spiritually in their pieces.
Coming up on the next Charlotte Talks we sit down with the curator of the museum, and a few artists on view to discuss the significance of the exhibit, the role religion plays in art, and what impact it has had in a society that has seen a rise in secular thought.
