Charlotte Talks

http://66.225.205.104/CT20070320.mp3

On this edition of Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins, we'll take a look at the role media plays in women's health. In today's world, most mass media is profit-driven, and some of the information we receive through magazines, TV spots, and health studies might not be in our best interest. We're confronted with warped body images, sold plastic surgery, told to lose weight, and taught to constantly be unsatisfied with ourselves and our bodies. Prescription drugs, which are now marketed directly to the consumer, may present health problems we don't even have. Judy Norsigian, co-author of a landmark women's health book Our Bodies, Ourselves: A New Edition for a New Era, joins us to help distinguish the advertisements from the informative. Since this is a pre-recorded program, we won't be able to take any phone calls this hour. More information: http://www.ourbodiesourselves.org/
