Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence Today we commemorate the signing of the Declaration of Independence. But some believe a declaration was signed much earlier - May 20, 1775 in Mecklenburg County. Authenticity of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence, or "MecDec," is disputed but recently David McCullough, noted author and historain, has stated his belief in its existence. We'll revisit our conversation on the MecDec this hour.
