A 37-year-old man from Charlotte has been convicted of attempting and conspiring to support the Islamic State, also known as ISIS.
The guilty verdict was handed down yesterday in Akron, Ohio. The jury found Erick Jamal Hendricks tried to recruit people in the United States to carry out attacks inside the country. Court documents connected him to a thwarted terrorist attack in Texas in 2015 and to a man who was arrested in Ohio the same year after trying to purchase a AK-47 assault rifle and ammunition from an undercover officer.
Sentencing for Hendricks has yet to be scheduled.
