North Carolina is scheduled to get a visit from Hillary Clinton on Thursday. Her husband primed the way for her Monday. Bill Clinton made three stops throughout the state, including one at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte.
There aren’t many campaign surrogates that come with such a devoted following as former President Bill Clinton.
"We love you, Bill," shouted several people.
"Thank you. I love you," replied Clinton.
A few hundred people came out to the historically black university yesterday to see him make a pitch for another Clinton presidency. Martha Moore has been a fan of the Clintons for years. She said while she likes Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton is the best choice.
"She’s not only a winner, but I believe she can work with all sides of the aisles to really get some things done," said Moore.
That’s exactly what Clinton went on to tell the crowd. He said Hillary Clinton is the most qualified to be commander-in-chief and bring people together.
"But the real reason you ought to be for her is: she’s the single best change-maker I ever saw. Anybody can talk about it. We need somebody who can do it and do it under these circumstances, at this time, with all the challenges," said Clinton.
He made sure to craft his message to many of the students in the crowd, not all of whom had made up their minds.
"The young people here cannot wait for relief from the burdens of college debt. They can’t wait to finish the work of health care reform. They can’t wait for small business loans to be available for everybody. We have to get this show on the road."
Hillary Clinton has a wide lead in North Carolina. Polls have her ahead of Sanders between 10 and 26 percentage points.
