La Cabeza Ou Tete de Mort (Grande) by Niki de Saint Phalle being installed outside the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art. The piece weighs 7,500 pounds. Artist Niki de Saint Phalle If you've noticed some new sculptures outside 'The Green' across from the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art this week, then you've seen some of the work of Niki de Saint Phalle. In fact, if you've so much as driven by the Bechtler and have seen the Firebird sculpture, that's also by Niki de Saint Phalle. She was a sculptor and painter appreciated by art aficionados and art newbies alike and her career spanned from the 50's until her death in 2002. The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is launching a major exhibition of de Saint Phalle this week and we will host family members of the artist and other experts to talk about art, life, feminism and joy on the next Charlotte Talks. Guests Laura Duke - Daughter of Niki de Saint Phalle Bloum Cardenas - Granddaughter of Niki de Saint Phalle Dave Stevenson - Trustee of the Niki Charitable Art Foundation John Boyer - President and CEO of Bechtler Museum of Modern Art Add and read comments
