The Observer reports on its website it will offer buyout packages to about 75 employees. Charlotte Observer Publisher Anne Caulkins told staff the publication is looking to trim nine percent of its workforce. The paper did not specify which positions are slated to be cut. WFAE has a call to Caulkins. This is the third time in five months the Charlotte Observer announced reductions to its staff. Early this summer Observer parent company, McClatchy Company, announced it would trim 14-hundred jobs nationwide. The company cites weak ad sales and a steadily shrinking number of newspaper readers.
