The Mecklenburg Board of Elections declared Democrat Rachel Hunt the winner of the North Carolina House District 103 seat Tuesday night after completing a recount requested by Republican Bill Brawley.
The southeast Charlotte House race was the final state legislative race to be called.
Going into the recount, Hunt had 19,134 votes to Brawley's 19,064 votes - a difference of 70 votes. The recount changed that difference only slightly. Hunt has 19133 votes to Brawley's 19,065 votes — a difference of 68 votes.
Hunt's victory capped a successful Nov. 6 election for Mecklenburg Democrats, who defeated five of the six Republican state legislative incumbents in the area. Dan Bishop of Charlotte is the only Mecklenburg Republican who will be in the legislature next year.
Brawley chairs the House Finance Committee. Hunt is the daughter of former governor Jim Hunt. She raised more than $1.2 million for the race, making it one of the most expensive in the state.
