Strip Clubs Pony Up For The DNC

It's not just city officials and business leaders rolling out the red carpet for the DNC.

So is the adult entertainment industry. The same thing is happening in Tampa, the site of the Republican National Convention.

As WFAE's Tanner Latham reports, strip club owners, managers, and dancers are all hoping to cash in on the excitement.

City Budget Still Up In The Air

The Charlotte City Council will take another stab at passing a budget and infrastructure plan tonight, but as of this afternoon, they're still sharply divided on how much to raise property taxes.

Loray Mill Project Gets Financing... Finally

The massive Loray Mill has been sitting vacant in Gastonia for nearly two decades, but that could be about to change. Camden Development Partners wants to build 190 loft apartments there along with space for shops. City officials announced Monday the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has committed to financing.

Jack Kiser with the City of Gastonia has high hopes for the Loray Mill.

"It is in an area that will have tremendous catalytic effect in turning around real estate and creating an opportunity for new investment," says Kiser.

In the aftermath of a surprise city council move to ditch plans for a tax increase and infrastructure improvement package, elected officials and community leaders are adjusting their plans for the future and trying to shape the discussion.

The city council's sudden decision to scrap the infrastructure package and tax hike had the feel of a kid who realizes he can't win the game, so he takes his ball and goes home.

DNC Moves CarolinaFest From Speedway To Uptown

Back in January, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman made a big announcement about the Monday festivities leading into the DNC convention.
"Our friends at the host committee are inviting families across the Carolinas, Virginia, and the South to come to Charlotte Motor Speedway to celebrate Labor Day and to continue the conversation that President Obama started four years ago," she said.

Now they've shifted gears. They've announced the party will be moving Uptown.

Charlotte Observer: CMPD Officer Shoots, Wounds Man In Northwest Charlotte

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer shot and wounded a man during an exchange of gunfire early Wednesday in northwest Charlotte.
Police say the shooting happened after officers had responded to calls of a home invasion. They say the shooting victim tried running from the scene and then fired a shot at Officer Joshua Baswell.
The man who was shot has not been identified, but he was taken to Carolinas Medical Center for surgery. His condition was not known Wednesday morning.
