Drummond's Fifty Days in Baghdad

Charlotte Observer Reporter and Editor Mike Drummond recently returned from a fifty day trip to Baghdad. It was his second visit to Iraq. The first time, he was embedded with troops. This time, he spent more time in the city itself. His articles and his daily blog gave readers a vivid picture of the current situation in Iraq. He spoke with WFAE's Craig Fahle about his experience.

Hot, Dry Days Continue

The Charlotte area gets more rain in an average year than Seattle. The average high temperature in Kansas City this time of year is one degree higher than it is in Charlotte. But if someone has spent the past 3 weeks in the Queen City, neither one of those facts would seem very believable. For an update on the continuing hot and very dry weather, WFAE's Scott Graf called the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg and spoke with Meteorologist Brian McAvoy. He started by asking McAvoy why our weather doesn't seem to be changing.

BofA and NFL Reach Deal

Bank of America and the NFL announced a deal that makes the Charlotte company the official bank of the nation's most popular pro-sports league. It's the latest in a growing sports marketing portfolio for Bank of America. To analyze that trend, WFAE's Scott Graf spoke with Dr. Robert Roundtree, a sports marketing professor at UNC-Charlotte. Scott first asked why any company wants an official designation.

Mayberry Memory

WFAE lost a friend this month when commentator Tom Pfahlert died following a lengthy bout with cancer. We first go to know Tom in 2005 when he contacted us with a commentary idea. It was an essay about a particular melody that helped him relax when the world got to be too much. As a tribute to Tom, who retired last year as the Program Chair of CPCC's advertising and graphic design department, we want to share again a peice that we simply called, "Mayberry."
