We visit with the head of Duke Energy on today's edition of Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins. Jim Rogers heads a multi-national company at the heart of energy supply in our region. Recently the corporation released a report looking at a lower carbon future and Mr. Rogers also speaks on climate related issues to the World Affairs Council later today. He also just returned from a trip to China and will have some insights on that country's future energy demands.

Controversial Dragway Opens in Concord

A new dragway near Lowe's Motor Speedway is ready for racing. But the project nearly didn't happen. Neighbors worried it would be too noisy and city officials rejected an initial proposal for the drag-racing strip. Speedway Motorsports CEO Bruton Smith reacted by threatening to take all of his racing business elsewhere, and Concord officials backtracked. WFAE's Julie Rose asked Concord Mayor Scott Padgett to explain that about-face that led to today's opening of the new dragway.

First Dog Park Opens Uptown

Uptown Charlotte is the center of social life for many people, but not so much for their four-legged friends.

Fourth Ward resident Chris Connelly says his Labradoodle Winston doesn't get much opportunity to play with other dogs, because he must always be on a leash. Today that changes with the opening of Uptown's first and only off-leash dog area at Frazier Park.

Connelly says it will be great for his dog's social life, and maybe his, too.
