school en School Run By CMS, Non-Profit To Open At Former Boulevard Homes <p>The Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Board approved plans Tuesday night to partner with a non-profit to run a pre-k- 8 school on the city’s west side.&nbsp; It’s in the area once known as Boulevard Homes.&nbsp; Before it was torn down two years ago, the public housing complex was often in the news for violence. &nbsp;The Renaissance West Community Initiative is re-developing that area and this school will be at the center of it.&nbsp;</p><p>Laura Clark is executive director of the group.&nbsp; WFAE's Mark Rumsey asked her why it's important for a school to be part of this neighborhood?</p><p> Thu, 24 Apr 2014 15:38:18 +0000 Mark Rumsey 49631 at Fathers Drop Kids Off At Schools <p align="left">Students at nine schools in west Charlotte got special escorts to their classrooms today.&nbsp; Fathers, grandfathers and uncles dropped children off at school as part of a national effort called the Million Father March to get fathers and other male mentors involved in the lives of students.&nbsp;</p><p align="left">Dontay Kilgo brought his son to his first day of pre-k at Druid Hills Academy. &nbsp;About 25 other men dropped their children off at the school too.&nbsp;</p> Mon, 26 Aug 2013 19:54:54 +0000 Lisa Miller 34072 at Fathers Drop Kids Off At Schools
